Creating the Residency

By expanding the PlySpace identity, my team sculpted a complete branding design system.

For five months, I worked closely with the PlySpace Residence Coordinator and the Muncie Arts and Culture Council Executive Director to create a branding design system with a team of six designers. We spent our time creating web and social media assets, custom animations, email templates, letterhead designs, promotional materials, editorial designs, and crafting outdoor vinyl and indoor signage.

The Design System

It was important that the overall identity for PlySpace was consistent throughout the entire brand. Once the identity lockups were finalized, we began developing patterns, grids, and structures that would complement the lockups to create an easily recognizable, cohesive look. By manipulating the shapes in the Logomark, we created a linear pattern that could be replicated and reproduced in a multitude of functions and assets.

Sculpting a Cohesive Brand

To ensure the consistency of the PlySpace brand, we expanded the pattern into different assets, including social media templates. For an artist-in-residency program, visuals are key features on social media. In order to supplement as many different posts as possible, our team created a series of modifiable templates for the PlySpace Coordinator and Residents to utilize during the residency to keep their Facebook and Instagram newsfeeds as diverse as possible while allowing them to interact with the brand in an easy, unified manner. The social media and web design assets received a 2019 GDUSA American Web Design Award.

Cross Platform Integration

To create more movement throughout the PlySpace social media assets, we crafted a series of motion graphics in AfterEffects for the residency and resident application deadlines.
